Legal paperwork should not require a retainer

LegalDraft AI exists because the gap between “I need this in writing” and “I can afford a lawyer for this” swallows an enormous amount of ordinary life.

The problem we started with

Most contracts that go wrong were never read. Not because people are careless, but because a 30-page agreement written in defensive legal prose is genuinely hard to read, and the cost of having someone explain it often exceeds the value of the deal. So people sign, and find out later what clause 8.2 meant.

The same gap works in the other direction. A freelancer who needs a service agreement, a landlord who needs a notice served correctly, a family that needs a power of attorney before a hospital appointment — all of them need a document that is structurally correct far more often than they need bespoke legal drafting. That is a solvable problem.

What we built

LegalDraft AI is an iOS app that drafts legal documents from your answers across 136 document types in 12 categories, reviews contracts you have been sent clause by clause, scores them for risk, and translates legalese into plain English. It signs, watermarks, protects and merges the resulting PDFs, and tracks the renewal dates afterwards.

It runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac with Apple silicon, and Apple Vision Pro. It is free to download and free to keep using within a monthly allowance — three documents, two contract reviews, fifteen assistant messages — with a subscription that lifts the caps if you need more.

Why the templates and tools here are free

120 of our 136 templates are published in full on this website — not behind an email form, not with the second half withheld. You can read the actual clauses, copy them and download PDF or Word files without giving us anything. The remaining 16 are documents like prenuptial agreements and property deeds, which vary so much between situations that a single fixed template would be misleading rather than useful; those pages publish the clause checklist instead, and the app composes the document itself.

The same applies to the PDF tools. They are not a trial of a paid service; they cost us nothing to run because they execute in your browser rather than on our servers, which is also why they never see your files.

The reasoning is straightforward. A template is useful. It is not, however, the same thing as a document written around your situation and checked for the clauses that will cost you money. If the free version solves your problem, good — that is a real outcome. If it does not, you already know what we build.

What we are careful about

We are not a law firm and this is not legal advice. We say so on every page, because the distinction matters. The app provides legal information, document structure and analysis. Applying the law to your specific circumstances — with professional responsibility attached — is what a licensed attorney does, and for anything high-value, cross-border, regulated, or that takes effect on death, you should use one.

Your documents are not our training data. Content processed by AI features is used to produce your result and nothing else. Your documents and history stay on your device. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

Jurisdiction is stated, not assumed. Our templates are drafted to be jurisdiction-neutral with governing law left as a field, and every template page carries a note about where local law is likely to override it. That is less convenient than pretending one document works everywhere, and considerably more honest.

Who makes it

LegalDraft AI is built and published by an independent developer. It is currently at version 1.0.6 and is available in 29 interface languages, with AI tools that read, explain and translate documents across 43. It is a new app — if you are weighing it up, the free plan exists precisely so you do not have to take our word for any of this.

Feedback, bug reports and template requests are genuinely welcome — there is a form inside the app, or write to jaideepsandhu045@gmail.com.
